Europe’s largest wind farm, currently under construction in Scotland, has reached a “key milestone” with the facility’s first generation of electricity sent to the national grid.
Scotland is serious about developing its significant wind and tidal resources, and the nation has the most ambitious renewable energy development target in the world. By 2025, Scotland aims to meet 100% of power needs with energy generated from renewables.
Over $800 million has been invested in Scotland’s massive wind project in the South Lanarkshire region, which will include 152 turbines and generate enough energy to power approximately 279,000 homes. The final two sections of the farm are slated for completion in 2012.
